PTO MINUTES 9/19/2007

 

 

 

Call to order @ 6:40 pm

 Opening Prayer was said by Fr. Nadeau

 Secretary and Treasurer reports were read and accepted

 An Introduction of PTO Board Members was done

             Fr. Nadeau spoke of the importance of a Catholic Education from the Parish point of view.  He has seen first hand how past experiences from attending St. Thomas School has helped people in times of trouble.  The goal of a Catholic Education is the union of children to God and happiness.  The Mass is an extension of education in faith development of the children.  The parish contract we sign needs to be taken seriously.  At the end of last year it was found that 40% of families were not in compliance of this commitment.  It is important to remember with this contract the Parish donates $1,300.00 a year for each student.  Fr. Nadeau then asked for suggestions of what to do to achieve more participation in the Mass.

             Ideas such as putting together a committee or having the parish bookkeeper check quarterly records of  family involvement and send out bills accordingly:  Another idea was to get the children actively involved with the Mass.  Fr. Nadeau will take these and other suggestions to the Parish Board.                    

             Denise Goulet, co-president of the School Board, spoke about the role that the School Board has.  Members of this board are made up of parents and parish members.  All are welcome to attend their meetings and if there is something specific that you would like to discuss with them it must first be put on their agenda. 

              Patti Dumont, co-president of the PTO, spoke about the role of the PTO.  Members of this board support the school and help raise money thru fund raisers...though they do not make the decision of which fund raisers are done.

             Karl Paterson will be heading up our Spring Bottle Drive to be held 9/22/07.  This is the first major fund raiser for the school and an opportunity to start earning those volunteer hours!

             Claire Webb announced that 9/28/07 will kick off the Magazine Drive!  So be on the lookout for the paperwork in your child’s backpack.
